The Basics

Player Statistics

There are 2 main groups of statistics that you will need to keep track of as a player: ability scores, and skill scores. Ability scores determine certain aspects and capacities of your character, such as health and carrying capacity. Skills determine how good you are at performing a certain act, such as swordsmanship and investigation.

Leveling Up

Heroes and Havoc does not use a conventional leveling system of experience and levels, instead you have a chance of increasing a skill score whenever you use that skill. After increasing a skill there is then a 1 in 6 chance to increase an ability score associated with that skill.

Rolling Dice

There are 3 main types of rolls: skill checks, damage rolls, and chance rolls. A skill check tests your ability to perform that skill. A damage roll determines how much damage is dealt after something dangerous occurs. Lastly, chance rolls determine if a chance occurrence happens.

Skill Check. 1d20 + your skill modifier + your ability modifiers

Damage Roll. The dice rolled is indicated on the damage description.

Chance Roll. 1d6, the target is the lower numbers on the die. For example, a 2 in 6 chance triggers on a 1 or 2 on the d6 roll.
